Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay Visits Chennai Children Hospital Amid Bribery Allegations
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay made an unannounced visit to the Government Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Chennai after a viral video alleged bribes, unsanitary conditions and inadequate facilities. During the inspection Vijay reviewed the hospital’s infrastructure, spoke with doctors, staff and mothers, and was photographed holding newborns. Health Minister Dr Arun Raj said a contract staff member accused in the complaint had been dismissed and that additional toilets, wards and a canteen were needed. The chief minister promised to examine measures to strengthen infrastructure and improve patient services. The visit has political overtones, as women and children are a key support base for Vijay’s party, which won a large majority in the state assembly.
