Migrant worker arrested after 3-year-old's death in Tamil Nadu

A three-year-old girl died after being sexually assaulted by a 19‑year‑old migrant worker from Bihar in Pudupettai near Gummidipoondi, Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu. The accused, who worked at the same steel company as the child's parents, lured her with biscuits, took her to a nearby shop and assaulted her in a secluded spot on Sunday night.

The child was rescued by a passerby, taken first to a government hospital at Kottakarai and later transferred to Stanley Government Hospital in Chennai, where she succumbed to her injuries the following morning. Police arrested the worker, stating that only one person was involved, and registered the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, with murder charges likely to follow. Residents staged protests outside the SIPCOT police station, demanding strict action and a thorough investigation.
