Tamil Nadu CM C Joseph Vijay appoints 401 power‑sector staff

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay handed appointment orders to 401 candidates selected by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission for the state's power sector, including 383 Assistant Engineers (Electrical) and 18 Assistant Accounts Officers. The ceremony was held at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai and the recruits will serve in the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and its subsidiaries.

During the event the CM stepped down from the podium to personally hand the order to R Akshaya Lakshmi, a full‑term pregnant woman from Tambaram who has a master’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering and was appointed as an Assistant Engineer in Chengalpattu. Officials said the recruitment is part of a drive to fill more than 70,000 vacant posts in the electricity utility and to recruit at least 15,000 employees within a year, aiming to improve generation, transmission and distribution across the state. Energy Minister C T R Nirmalkumar, Chief Secretary M Saikumar and other senior officials were present.
