Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Plans New National Political Alliance

Tamil Nadu chief minister Vijay, after securing a state‑level victory, is reportedly preparing to create a national political coalition that would exclude both the Congress and BJP. He is said to be in talks with influential regional leaders such as Andhra Pradesh chief Jagan Mohan Reddy, West Bengal figure Mamatha Banerjee, Uttar Pradesh leader Akilesh Yadav and Telangana chief Chandrasekhar Rao, aiming to unite strong state parties into a single front. The initiative is described as a bid to amplify state voices at the centre and to reshape Indian politics ahead of future elections, with preliminary steps already underway and a target timeframe extending to 2028.

Concurrently, opposition parliamentary groups are experiencing internal upheaval. A split within the opposition has seen twenty MPs move from the Nationalist CPI party to join a breakaway faction led by Mamatha Banerjee, prompting disputes over seniority and committee positions. These realignments are viewed as part of the broader re‑configuration of alliances that Vijay’s proposed coalition could trigger across the Lok Sabha.
