Tamil Nadu CM Vijay's London event cancelled over safety concerns
A scheduled public appearance by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in London was cancelled on Tuesday due to public safety concerns raised by the London Metropolitan Police. Hundreds of supporters had gathered outside The Shard, the United Kingdom’s tallest building, hoping to catch a glimpse of the leader.
Following the police intervention, Vijay’s team announced the cancellation via loudspeaker, stating they could not secure the necessary permissions to manage the large crowd. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) IT wing also urged supporters to refrain from gathering outside the Chief Minister’s hotel or along his travel routes to ensure safety.
Despite the cancellation, the Chief Minister’s visit to the United Kingdom has yielded significant economic results. Leading a high-level delegation, Vijay has secured multiple memoranda of understanding (MoUs) involving investments worth approximately ₹12,300 crore. These agreements, aimed at establishing Tamil Nadu as a global manufacturing and technology hub, are expected to create over 9,400 high-value jobs. A major commitment includes an ₹11,000 crore investment from Samvardhana Motherson International Limited.
