Tamil Nadu braces for heavy rain and strong winds through June 9, fishermen warned

The regional meteorological centre in Chennai has forecast that the south‑west monsoon will bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal until 9 June. Several districts, including the hill areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Thelliyamala and Dindigul, are expected to experience severe storms, with wind speeds of 40‑50 km/h and gusts up to 60 km/h along the coast and in the Mannar Bay and Comorin Sea. Temperatures are projected to reach 38‑39 °C maximum and 29‑30 °C minimum. The weather department has issued a marine advisory, urging fishermen to stay ashore and exercise extreme caution due to the anticipated conditions. Similar wind and rain patterns are predicted for the Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, the Kerala‑Karnataka coast, Lakshadweep and the Maldives region.
