Tamil Nadu faces moderate rain and strong winds as cyclonic system moves across state
The India Meteorological Department forecast moderate rainfall with strong winds across Tamil Nadu for the next three days as an upper‑air cyclonic circulation over the north coast continues to affect the state, including Puducherry and Karaikal.
The system will bring moderate rain and thunderstorms to northern districts such as Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Kallakurichi, while heavier rain with gusts of 40‑50 km/h is expected in the Cauvery Delta districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai. Recorded peaks include seven centimetres in Nalumukku (Tirunelveli) and six centimetres in Dharmapuri.
Officials advised residents to stay alert for possible water‑logging, traffic disruptions and outdoor‑activity hazards, noting the weather will bring cooler conditions and could aid farming ahead of the cultivation season.
