Tamil Nadu faces rising temperatures and reduced rainfall through July 16

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai warned that Tamil Nadu will experience temperatures 3‑4 °C above normal until July 16, with many areas already recording highs of 41.7 °C in Vellore and over 40 °C in Madurai and Chennai districts. A weak southwest monsoon has limited rainfall, leaving most of the state unusually hot and humid.

Officials advised residents to avoid exposure to strong midday sun, stay well‑hydrated and watch for heat‑related health risks. Light showers are possible in the Western Ghats later in the week, which could provide limited local relief, but the interior regions are expected to remain sweltering.
