Tamil Nadu farm loan waiver denounced as 'scientific fraud' by AIADMK chief
The Tamil Nadu government announced a crop‑loan waiver, offering ₹50,000 relief to marginal farmers and ₹5,000 to larger borrowers from cooperative banks. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami responded on X, calling the scheme a “scientific fraud” and accusing the ruling party of using the measure to distract from law‑and‑order problems and engage in political horse‑trading. He contrasted the current waiver, projected at ₹2,044 crore for 2026, with the AIADMK‑led administration’s 2021 waiver of ₹12,110 crore that benefitted about 16.43 million farmers, saying that deceiving farmers has never endured in history.
Palaniswami emphasized the importance of farmers, likening them to “God,” and urged the government to correct what he termed a deceptive policy.
