Tamil Nadu Assembly debates TVK government budget and infrastructure plans
In the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, debates regarding the first budget and agricultural statements of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government are ongoing. Minister Adhav Arjuna announced several major infrastructure and sports initiatives, including the development of an Olympic training center in Chennai to identify young talent for the 2036 Olympics. Other projects include a coastal expressway connecting Chennai, Mamallapuram, and Puducherry, and the implementation of AI-powered surveillance cameras for road safety.
Opposition parties, specifically the DMK, have criticized the TVK administration's first 100 days, labeling it a ‘circus government’ and citing concerns over rising crime rates and public safety. Meanwhile, TVK supporters have defended the administration, stating they are working to prevent the party from being mischaracterized as a government solely for specific social groups.
In separate regional news, the DMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss called for action against a Tahsildar in Dindigul for allegedly ordering the collection of personal details of CPI and CPM members. Additionally, in Madurai, a court has ordered an investigation into the death of a man, following allegations from his wife that he died due to police assault at a local station.
