Tamil Nadu heavy rains spark school closure talks and Nilgiris wind warnings

Heavy rain and thunderstorms have battered Chennai, prompting speculation about a possible school holiday. Tamil Nadu officials have not issued an official closure announcement, advising parents and students to check directly with schools.

The India Meteorological Department forecast intense rain and strong winds for the Nilgiris district, warning of landslides, water‑logging and falling trees. Similar weather is expected across parts of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry. A marine warning was also issued for fishermen in the Andaman Sea, with winds up to 55 km/h advised to be avoided.

Authorities recommend residents in vulnerable areas stay cautious and follow official bulletins for updates.
