Tamil Nadu implements teacher certificate checks and addresses college infrastructure gaps
The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Elementary Education (DEE) has issued new instructions to strengthen the verification of educational certificates for teachers in government and local-body schools. The directive aims to ensure that all submitted qualifications are genuine and meet the specific requirements for their respective posts.
Separately, an assessment by the Directorate of Collegiate Education (DCE) has identified significant infrastructure deficits across all 181 government arts and science colleges in the state. The report highlights a critical shortage of toilet facilities, noting a need for hundreds of additional units for students, staff, and persons with disabilities. Other major requirements include approximately 1,700 new classrooms and modern laboratory facilities to support rising student enrollment. The DCE and the Public Works Department will conduct field inspections to verify these needs before funds are allocated for improvements.
