Tamil Nadu issues heavy rain and strong wind alert for multiple districts
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast heavy rain accompanied by winds up to 50 km/h across several districts of Tamil Nadu over the next few days. The system, a trough extending from Madhya Pradesh to the state, is currently moving through the Mannar Bay area and is expected to affect districts including Theni, Dindigul, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal, Erode, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Coimbatore.
Authorities have warned residents in low‑lying and vulnerable zones to stay alert for landslides and flash flooding, and have urged fishermen to exercise caution at sea. Additional warnings were issued for May 8‑9 for heavy rainfall in Mayiladuthurai and Pudukkottai. Disaster response teams and district administrations have been placed on standby to monitor the situation.
