Tamil Nadu northern districts forecast to receive heavy rain

The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rains for several northern districts of Tamil Nadu starting Monday. Specifically, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, and Tiruvannamalai are expected to experience heavy rainfall at isolated locations between August 17 and August 19.

Additional heavy rain is anticipated in the Nilgiris district on August 19. Other areas, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Cuddalore, may see moderate rainfall. The weather agency warned of potential thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h across various parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Karaikal region.

Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea due to squally weather and high wind speeds in parts of the southwest Bay of Bengal. Recent rainfall recorded in Coimbatore reached nine centimeters, while Villupuram registered eight centimeters.
