Tamil Nadu officials launch investment missions to Taiwan and UK
Tamil Nadu officials are launching international missions to attract industrial and high-technology investments. Industries Minister Keerthana is scheduled to travel to Taiwan on September 4 to participate in the Semicon conference, focusing on semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and chip manufacturing.
Following this, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay will lead a high-level delegation to the United Kingdom from September 10 to 16. This marks the Chief Minister’s first official overseas visit since assuming office. The mission aims to engage major industrial companies and showcase the state as a destination for emerging sectors.
These efforts occur amid competition between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh for capital investments. The UK outreach also aligns with the expanded bilateral commercial architecture following the UK-India Free Trade Agreement, which entered into effect in July 2026 and has significantly reduced tariffs across sectors such as automotive, manufacturing, and medical technology.
