Tamil Nadu PMK calls all‑party meeting over Mekedatu dam dispute

PMK leader Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss and the Tamil Nadu All Farmers’ Associations Coordination Committee urged Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to convene an all‑party and farmers’ meeting to formulate a united response to Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu dam on the Cauvery River. The parties warned that Karnataka has progressed with surveys, iron‑rod demarcations and access works at the Kanakapura site, and that the dam could jeopardise irrigation and turn the fertile Cauvery delta into a desert.

The groups criticized a recent Tamil Nadu Assembly resolution as ineffective and called for urgent political and legal steps to block the project, demanding stronger action than Karnataka’s “selfish” push forward. They seek to protect the water rights and livelihoods of the region’s five‑lakh farmers and the broader public.
