Tamil Nadu PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss opposes new Mekedatu tribunal proposal

PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss on 21 June 2026 warned that the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly’s resolution seeking a fresh tribunal to settle the Mekedatu dam dispute would jeopardise the state’s legal standing. He argued that existing rulings by the Cauvery Tribunal and the Supreme Court already require Karnataka to obtain Tamil Nadu’s consent before any construction on the Cauvery, making a new tribunal “unnecessary and counter‑productive.” Ramadoss urged Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to delete the tribunal clause from the resolution before sending it to the Union Government, stating that pursuing a separate tribunal would “mortgage” Tamil Nadu’s interests and give Karnataka an advantage.
