Tamil Nadu police senior officers resign and undergo massive reshuffle

Two former Directors General of Police in Tamil Nadu stepped down from key chairmanships in mid‑June 2026. Former DGP Shankar Jiwal resigned as Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Fire Services Commission, while former DGP Sunil Kumar left his post as Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board. No reasons were given for the resignations.

On 16 June 2026 the state government issued an order transferring 56 senior police officers to new assignments across the state, appointing new district superintendents, deputy commissioners and heads of specialized units such as the Economic Offences Wing and the Anti‑Corruption division.
