Tamil Nadu Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar orders fresh inquiry into AIADMK MLA resignations

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J. C. D. Prabhakar has scheduled new personal hearings for July 30 to examine the resignations of four former AIADMK legislators—P. Sathyabama, S. Jayakumar, K. Maragatham Kumaravel and Esakki Subbaiah. The Speaker also summoned AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) to appear and permitted him to question the former MLAs during the inquiry.

The hearings aim to verify whether the resignations were voluntary and comply with Article 190(3)(b) of the Constitution and the Tamil Nadu Assembly’s disqualification rules. They follow a disqualification petition lodged after 25 AIADMK MLAs voted for the ruling TVK government in a trust vote, prompting EPS to seek disqualification of the four legislators.
