Tamil Nadu Speaker rules out disqualification of 21 AIADMK MLAs
Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J. C. D. Prabhakar announced on June 9 that no disqualification proceedings will be initiated against 21 AIADMK legislators who voted for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in a recent confidence motion, despite a party whip ordering them to oppose it. The decision follows a letter from AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami asking that the party accept the MLAs' apologies and refrain from invoking the anti‑defection law.
Four of the rebel MLAs – Perundurai Jayakumar, Maragatham Kumaravel, Isakki Subbiah and Sathyabama – remain under investigation for alleged violation of the party whip and may face separate action.
