Tamil Nadu Tasmac to issue receipts and roll out online liquor app

The Madras High Court directed the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) to issue a receipt for every liquor bottle sold and to maintain bill books at all of its retail outlets. Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan issued the order while hearing a petition that alleged over‑charging at 30 Tasmac shops, and set a compliance reporting date of 7 August.

In response, Tasmac announced a mobile application that will allow customers to view prices, place orders and pay online before collecting liquor at any of the 4,038 state‑run outlets. The app will generate a QR code for pickup, display the exact maximum retail price and is intended to curb over‑charging complaints, reduce queues and improve transparency.
