Additionally, the Madras High Court has issued notices regarding a legal challenge to the state’s online booking portal. Petitioners argue that online alcohol sales contradict constitutional obligations to promote prohibition and may facilitate underage drinking by complicating age-restriction enforcement.

Political tensions have also intensified in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) clashed over allegations of corruption. Government ministers alleged that customers are being charged an additional Rs 10 per bottle and questioned the transparency of distillery licenses. DMK leaders rejected these claims, asserting that licenses were issued following established rules, and the debate resulted in a walkout by DMK members.
