OneTag service launched to enable FASTag bank portability
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has launched ‘OneTag’, a new service designed to enable portability for NETC FASTag users. Developed through a collaboration between the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the service allows vehicle owners to switch their issuer bank without needing to replace the physical RFID sticker affixed to their windshield.
Previously, changing a FASTag provider required users to close their existing account and undergo a new onboarding process to receive a new physical tag. With OneTag, the existing Tag ID and vehicle registration number remain unchanged. The portability process can be managed through NHAI’s Rajmargyatra mobile app, which handles eligibility verification, consent, and bank selection.
Under this framework, the previous issuer bank is responsible for managing the old wallet, including refunds and pending transactions, while the new bank handles the onboarding. This initiative aims to increase consumer choice, reduce plastic waste from discarded tags, and simplify the digital toll collection experience.
