Tamil Nadu weather alert: Heavy rain forecast for multiple districts

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued forecasts for heavy and moderate rainfall across various districts in Tamil Nadu. A trough extending from southern interior Karnataka to the southwest Bay of Bengal is influencing weather conditions, leading to predictions of heavy rain in regions including the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Tirupattur, and Ranipet.

Chennai and surrounding districts such as Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram are expected to experience moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Rainfall activity is projected to intensify in northern Tamil Nadu through the weekend before potentially shifting to western, central, and southern parts of the state by Sunday.

Recent weather events have already resulted in casualties and localized flooding. Two deaths were reported due to lightning strikes in the Dindigul and Tenkasi districts. Additionally, heavy rains in the Perambalur district caused sudden flooding in fields and streams near Adakkampatti village, necessitating local rescues of stranded individuals.
