The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued warnings for heavy rainfall across multiple districts in Tamil Nadu due to a low-pressure area over the northern Andaman Sea and a trough extending from Maharashtra to the southeast Arabian Sea.
Heavy rain is expected in approximately 21 districts, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Dindigul, Pudukkottai, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, and Tiruvannamalai. Other areas such as Sivaganga, Thanjavur, Madurai, Cuddalore, Tirupattur, Vellore, and Tiruchirappalli are also likely to experience significant precipitation.
Chennai and its neighboring districts, including Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu, are forecasted to receive moderate to heavy rain with potential thunderstorms and lightning. High-speed winds reaching 40-50 km/h, and occasionally up to 65 km/h in the Gulf of Mannar and southern coasts, are anticipated.
Authorities have advised residents in low-lying and sensitive areas to remain vigilant. Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea in notified areas, and drivers are warned of reduced visibility and potential waterlogging on roads.
