Tamil Nadu weather: Heavy rain forecast for Coimbatore and Nilgiris

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has forecast rain across several parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the coming days. A weak trough or low-pressure system in the lower levels of the atmosphere along the coastal regions is expected to bring unsettled weather to the state.

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of 40-50 kmph is predicted for the hilly areas of Coimbatore and isolated locations in the Nilgiris. Residents and travelers in these hill districts have been advised to remain alert to sudden weather changes.

Moderate rain is expected in various districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Salem, Madurai, and others. The weather department has also warned of rough sea conditions for the next four days, with squally winds reaching up to 65 kmph along the Tamil Nadu coast and the Gulf of Mannar.
