Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay calls alliance meeting as Left parties stay out

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay hosted a meeting of the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) alliance on 1 July, inviting coalition partners including Congress, VCK, IUML, MDMK and the supporting Left parties CPI and CPI(M). The gathering was intended to discuss government stability and complete the five‑year term.

Both CPI and CPI(M) declined the invitation, stating their support was limited to facilitating government formation and they would not join a formal alliance. Meanwhile, opposition voices criticised the TVK government for extending a licence to Indian Rare Earths Limited to pursue a controversial nuclear mining project in Kanyakumari district, warning of health risks and potential protests.

The CPM also accused the DMK of attempting to topple the TVK administration through horse‑trading, alleging offers of crores of rupees to induce defections. In parallel, the Tamil Nadu Congress, led by Manickam Tagore, announced a rebuilding effort aimed at winning all 40 Lok Sabha seats in the 2029 elections, emphasizing its new alliance with TVK.
