Tampico authorities investigate pitbull attack and subsequent animal death

Authorities in Tampico, Tamaulipas, are investigating an incident involving a pitbull that resulted in both a human injury and the death of the animal. A woman, approximately 60 years old, was seriously injured by a pitbull terrier near the Infonavit Cañada sector and was hospitalized at the Hospital de Especialidades IMSS Bienestar 'Carlos Canseco'.

Following the attack, a confrontation occurred between pets. A woman reportedly used a knife to kill the pitbull with approximately 10 stabs to protect her German Shepherd, which had been bitten by the pitbull. The German Shepherd sustained injuries to its snout and nose but was taken to a veterinarian.

The Tampico Ecology Directorate and the Animal Protection area are cooperating with the Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado. The woman who killed the pitbull faces potential criminal charges and municipal fines ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 UMAs, as well as community service. Authorities are also pursuing a complaint against the pitbull's owners regarding the initial attack on the elderly woman.
