COMAPA Sur tackles water‑leak backlog in Tampico and Ciudad Madero
The state‑run water and sewerage agency COMAPA Sur has intensified repairs in the Tampico‑Ciudad Madero metropolitan area after residents reported dozens of broken pipes, open ditches and foul‑smelling discharges. Officials say 40,697 leak incidents were logged, and crews have responded to 42,130 cases, allowing the agency to clear a historic backlog and improve service quality.
Local officials and civic leaders are pressing for the utility to return to municipal control, arguing that faster, locally managed responses are needed to prevent prolonged service disruptions. The agency reports that its heightened field operations have reduced water losses and are aimed at restoring public confidence in basic water services.
The effort includes ongoing maintenance, faster repair times, and a commitment to address both new reports and long‑standing infrastructure deficiencies across the two cities.
