Tandil hills face illegal urban expansion in protected zones
The Assembly for the Preservation of the Tandil Hills has denounced new unauthorized urban expansion within protected areas of the Tandil hills. Recent reports from August 19 indicate land clearing and construction activities occurring at altitudes exceeding 280 meters above sea level, a zone strictly designated as non-urbanizable under current territorial planning regulations.
In addition to violating land-use laws, the construction work reportedly resulted in the destruction of a historic 'pirca' (stone structure), which is protected as archaeological and historical heritage under Ordinance 6839/95 and the Territorial Development Plan. The Assembly warns that despite existing regulations, urban growth continues to encroach upon protected rural areas.
