Urban expansion in Tandil hills protected zones

Overview

The Assembly for the Preservation of the Tandil Hills has reported unauthorized urban expansion within protected zones of the Tandil hills. Reports from August 19 indicate that land clearing and construction activities have occurred at altitudes above 280 meters, an area designated as non-urbanizable under current territorial planning regulations.

These activities have reportedly resulted in the destruction of a historic ‘pirca’ (stone structure), which is protected as archaeological and historical heritage under Ordinance 6839/95 and the Territorial Development Plan. The Assembly has warned that urban growth continues to encroach upon protected rural areas despite existing regulations.
