Tangier Mayor Mounir Limouri detained over election fraud allegations
Mounir Limouri, the Mayor of Tangier and a leader in the Authenticity and Modernity Party, has been placed in pretrial detention by an investigating judge. The decision follows an investigation into electoral irregularities during recent legislative elections.
The case centers on the seizure of a bag containing ballot papers near the Al-Quds school polling station in the Tangier-Asilah district. Preliminary investigations revealed that the ink used on the seized documents does not match the ink used within the official polling stations.
Limouri was apprehended by security forces at Ibn Battuta International Airport upon his arrival from Spain. The investigation has led to the detention of several individuals, with reports indicating the total number of suspects has reached seven. The Ministry of Interior has also dispatched a central inspection committee to Tangier to examine the breaches and determine legal responsibilities.
