Tanju Özcan vows to continue legal fight after court extends detention

Former Bolu mayor Tanju Özcan remains in pre‑trial detention after the court upheld the continued custody of him and 18 co‑defendants. The defendants face charges of attempted insurrection, attempted uprising, bribery, qualified fraud and opposition to the 5072 Foundation and Associations Law, with a possible sentence of up to 263 years in prison. The court released two defendants under judicial control and lifted house‑arrest for the deputy mayor, while the next hearing was scheduled for 7 September. Following the decision, Özcan posted on social media, stating, "Vicdanlarda çoktan beraat ettim, hukuk mücadelemi kararlılıkla sürdüreceğim," and thanked his family, lawyers, supporters and the people of Bolu for their backing as he pledges to keep fighting his case.
