Tanker Drivers Strike Threatens Fuel Supply in Brazil's Espírito Santo

Truck drivers who transport gasoline, diesel and ethanol in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo have announced a strike starting Monday, 13 May, after five rounds of negotiations failed. The Sindicato dos Rodoviários do Espírito Santo (Sindirodoviários) says the workers demand better working conditions, a 10 % wage raise and higher food‑ticket allowances. They warned that fuel stocks at distributors and stations could be depleted gradually, leading to shortages if the strike continues.

The strike could affect the supply of gasoline, diesel and ethanol at petrol stations across the state. Some station‑owner unions note that existing inventories are currently sufficient and advise the public not to panic or stock‑pile fuel, but they acknowledge that a prolonged walk‑out would strain logistics as stocks run low. The drivers said they remain open to dialogue and could suspend the strike if employers present an improved offer.
