Tanzania advances AFCON 2027 preparations through infrastructure and tourism
Tanzania is accelerating preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), focusing on infrastructure, tourism, and cultural promotion. In Arusha, the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) reports that road construction projects connecting various areas to the AFCON stadium have surpassed 60 percent completion. The project involves upgrading 21.4 kilometers of roads in Essuri, Lendita, and Mateves, with an expected completion date in May 2027.
To complement the sporting event, the African Tabasamu Foundation (ATAFO) plans to launch the inaugural Arusha International Cultural Festival. The festival aims to showcase Tanzanian traditions, including music, dance, and handicrafts, providing local artists with a market for their work during the tournament.
Additionally, the Tanzanian government is utilizing the ‘Destination Tanzania’ campaign to boost international visibility. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism has hosted journalists and content creators from the United States, Canada, South Africa, France, and the United Kingdom to showcase the country’s tourism attractions and sports infrastructure ahead of the continental tournament.
