Tanzania and Qatar sign tax treaty to boost bilateral investment
Tanzania and Qatar signed a Double Taxation Agreement on September 29, 2026, aimed at boosting bilateral trade and investment. The agreement was signed by Tanzanian Finance Minister Amb. Khamis Mussa Omar and Qatari Finance Minister Ali Bin Ahmed Al Kuwari during the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in Doha.
The treaty is designed to eliminate double taxation on cross-border business income, creating a more transparent and predictable environment for investors. It also seeks to strengthen cooperation between the tax authorities of both nations to combat tax evasion and avoidance while protecting their respective fiscal interests.
Tanzania expects the agreement to attract new capital into several key sectors, including infrastructure, energy, tourism, transport and logistics, agriculture, and financial services. Qatar’s Minister Al Kuwari noted that Tanzania is an important economic partner, highlighting existing involvement from the Qatar Investment Authority and the Qatar Fund for Development in various Tanzanian projects.
