Tanzania expands healthcare services through medical camps and hospital upgrades
In Tanzania, significant healthcare developments are underway in Mwanza and Dar es Salaam. In the Nyamagana constituency of Mwanza, a specialized medical camp is scheduled to take place from October 9 to 12 at the Nyamagana grounds. The camp will offer free diagnostic and treatment services, including minor and major surgeries, focusing on heart, lung, and vascular diseases, cancer screening, diabetes, hypertension, and respiratory illnesses. Medical experts from local institutions such as the Jakaya Kikwete Cancer Institute (JKCI), Muhimbili National Hospital, and Bugando Referral Hospital, as well as specialists from India, will participate.
In Dar es Salaam, Health Minister Mohamed Mchengerwa has instructed the newly appointed Board of Trustees at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) to prioritize service quality, accountability, and infrastructure maintenance. The Minister highlighted the launch of four strategic projects at the hospital: a Maternal-Fetal Health Unit, a modular obstetric operating theatre, a medical air production and distribution plant costing approximately 1.63 billion Shillings, and a fast-track/VIP clinic. The board is tasked with overseeing the construction of the New Muhimbili project and ensuring the sustainability of new medical equipment.
