Tanzania invests in primary healthcare infrastructure

Tanzania is prioritizing investment in primary healthcare infrastructure and medical equipment to ensure quality services for all citizens. During the Second International Primary Health Care Conference in Arusha, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (TAMISEMI), Prof. Riziki Silas Shemdoe, highlighted the critical role of primary health centers.

Statistics from 2025 indicate that 95.6 percent of the 2.09 million women who gave birth in public health facilities received services at the primary level. Additionally, primary health centers accounted for 86 percent of the 32.3 million outpatient visits at public facilities. Of the 8,288 government health centers in the country, 95.8 percent are primary-level facilities owned by local government authorities.

Technological integration is also progressing, with 96.6 percent of these centers connected to the GoTHOMIS system and 87.6 percent linked to the GePG system to improve efficiency and revenue management. The government aims to further improve medicine and health product management systems to ensure consistent availability at service delivery points.
