Tanzania mandates travel insurance for all visitors
Tanzania has implemented a new entry requirement for travelers. As of October 1, 2026, visitors must possess a mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance to enter the country, whether arriving by air or sea.
The insurance, which can be obtained through the state-run National Insurance Corporation (NIC), currently costs approximately 44 US dollars per person. The coverage is designed for emergencies, including medical evacuations, repatriations, and certain instances of lost luggage or passports, with a maximum coverage period of 92 days.
Regarding tourism, the timing for visiting Tanzania varies by interest. The dry season from June to October is ideal for safaris in northern areas like the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater due to thinner vegetation and concentrated wildlife. However, January and February offer a distinct experience in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu area, coinciding with the wildebeest calving season.
