Tanzania implements fiscal reforms and boosts revenue collections
Tanzania is implementing several fiscal and administrative reforms to strengthen its economy. The government reported saving 13.77 billion Shillings between 2019 and 2022 by managing cargo clearance through state institutions like the Government Procurement Services Agency (GPSA) and the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) rather than private agents.
In the realm of revenue collection, the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) collected 10.65 trillion Shillings between July and September 2026, exceeding its target by 107.49 percent. The TRA also concluded 130 tax evasion investigations valued at 331.15 billion Shillings and conducted over 1,100 operations to curb smuggling.
Additionally, the government is focusing on long-term mineral sector development. Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has directed the Ministry of Minerals to enhance management to meet the 2050 national development vision. This includes a legal requirement to allocate 10 percent of mineral revenues to research, a figure that has already reached 16 percent in some areas.
