Tanzania to mandate travel insurance for all visitors in 2026
Tanzania will implement mandatory inbound travel insurance for all visitors entering by air, land, or sea, effective October 1, 2026. This requirement is separate from any private insurance travelers may already hold.
The insurance is valid for up to 92 days and allows for multiple entries. Costs for adults aged 18 and older are set at $44.00 USD. Children between the ages of three and 17 receive a 50 percent discount, while children under three are exempt from the fee. Groups of ten or more people are eligible for a 10 percent discount on qualifying adult premiums.
Coverage includes medical emergencies, emergency medical evacuation, repatriation, lost or damaged checked luggage, baggage delays, accidents, and theft.
For travelers entering mainland Tanzania, insurance must be obtained through the National Insurance Corporation. Those entering Zanzibar must use the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation. Payments can be made online or at designated points of entry using Visa or Mastercard.
