Tanzania WRRB intensifies cashew nut quality inspections

The Warehouse Receipt Board of Tanzania (WRRB) has increased inspections of storage facilities in the Lindi and Mtwara regions to ensure the quality of cashew nuts ahead of the 2026/27 sales season. WRRB Executive Director Asangye Bangu conducted a special inspection tour, including a visit to the BUCO warehouse in Masasi, Mtwara, operated by Pugna Company.

The inspections focused on assessing infrastructure readiness, including roof stability, floor conditions, drainage systems, and storage environments. Bangu emphasized the importance of maintaining proper moisture levels to prevent crop damage, particularly due to climate change and heavy rainfall.

Farmers and warehouse operators have been instructed to strictly adhere to quality standards. Specifically, farmers are urged to ensure cashew nuts are thoroughly dried before delivery, while warehouse operators must conduct regular checks to mitigate risks. Bangu also directed Agricultural Marketing Co-operative Societies (AMCOS) to reject poorly dried crops and continue educating farmers on proper drying techniques.
