Tanzania cashew season quality management
Overview
Ahead of the 2026/27 cashew season, the Warehouse Receipts Registration Board (WRRB) of Tanzania coordinated with the Warehouse Operators Union to establish operational frameworks. During preparatory meetings in Dodoma, WRRB Executive Director Asangye Bangu emphasized that only warehouses meeting specific quality standards would be licensed, a measure intended to protect raw cashew quality from potential damage caused by El Nino rainfall.
As the season launched on October 12, 2026, the WRRB intensified inspections of storage facilities in the Lindi and Mtwara regions. These inspections focused on infrastructure readiness, including roof stability, drainage, and floor conditions. To mitigate risks from climate change and heavy rainfall, officials instructed farmers to ensure nuts are thoroughly dried and directed Agricultural Marketing Co-operative Societies (AMCOS) to reject poorly dried crops.
