Taoiseach Micheál Martin attends UN General Assembly and New York diplomatic visits

Taoiseach Micheál Martin is attending the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week in New York, where he intends to advocate for stronger multilateral action regarding global conflicts. During his address, Martin is expected to discuss the ongoing wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, specifically addressing the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank. He has expressed concern over the blocking of humanitarian aid and the lack of adequate shelter for Palestinians as winter approaches.

In addition to his diplomatic agenda at the UN, the Taoiseach is conducting a program focused on Irish-American community and cultural links. This includes meetings with New York State Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. As part of this visit, Martin will announce $90,000 in Irish government funding for the development of the James Joyce Museum at the University at Buffalo, a project slated to open in 2028. His itinerary also includes engagements with the New York Irish Center to support social and heritage services for the Irish community.
