Irish diplomatic mission to United Nations in New York

Irish government officials traveled to New York to participate in the United Nations High-Level Week and engage in diplomatic activities.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Helen McEntee and Minister of State for International Development Neale Richmond focused on multilateralism, international development, and human rights. Their agenda included addressing conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East, and Sudan, as well as highlighting the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan. The mission also supported Ireland’s bid for election to the Human Rights Council for the 2027-2029 term.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin joined the diplomatic efforts at the UN General Assembly, advocating for stronger multilateral action regarding global conflicts. He specifically addressed the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank, noting concerns over the blocking of aid and lack of shelter. Beyond UN proceedings, the Taoiseach engaged with the Irish-American community, meeting with New York officials and announcing $90,000 in funding for the James Joyce Museum at the University at Buffalo.
