TAP Air Portugal launches first regular flights to São Luís
TAP Air Portugal has commenced regular international service connecting Lisbon to São Luís, Maranhão. The new route operates on a triangular itinerary: Lisbon–São Luís–Fortaleza–Lisbon.
Initially, the service will offer two weekly frequencies using Airbus A321LR aircraft, which feature a capacity of 171 passengers. The airline has indicated plans to expand this to three weekly flights by late March 2027. This expansion follows months of negotiations between the Maranhão state government and the Portuguese carrier.
In conjunction with the new flight route, the Portuguese hotel chain Vila Galé is opening the Hotel Vila Galé Collection Ópera in the historic center of São Luís. These developments are expected to enhance tourism, business, and cultural exchange within the state by providing direct access to European destinations via the Lisbon hub.
