TAP Air Portugal receives binding offers from Air France‑KLM and Lufthansa

On 29 July 2026 the Portuguese state holding Parpública announced that Air France‑KLM and Deutsche Lufthansa AG each submitted a binding offer for a minority stake in TAP Air Portugal. The proposals cover the purchase of up to 49.9 % of the airline’s capital – with a further 5 % of shares earmarked for TAP employees – and are presented as long‑term strategic plans that would keep Lisbon as a key Atlantic hub, expand MRO capacity and strengthen connections to Brazil, Africa and North America.

The government, represented by Infrastructure Minister Miguel Pinto Luz, said a final decision on the selected investor is expected by September 2026, after Parpública reviews the offers and submits a 30‑day report to the Council of Ministers. The process also requires clearance from EU competition authorities. TAP employs roughly 7,700 people and is valued at between 1.4 and 2.0 billion euros, meaning the sale could bring a capital influx of up to roughly 1 billion euros.

International Airlines Group (IAG) withdrew earlier, leaving only the two European airline groups as bidders.
