Taranto discusses legacy of Mediterranean Games
Following the conclusion of the Mediterranean Games, officials and labor representatives in Taranto are discussing the long-term legacy of the event regarding urban management and sports infrastructure.
Mimmo Sardelli, general secretary of Fp Cgil Taranto, highlighted the improved cleanliness of the city, particularly in the Borgo district, during the games. He credited the public waste management company, Kyma Ambiente, stating that the event demonstrated that public entities can achieve high quality and efficiency when provided with adequate resources and organizational support.
Italian Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, announced discussions with CONI President Luciano Buonfiglio to transform Taranto into a “City for Olympic preparation.” Rather than building new structures, the vision focuses on a distributed sports project utilizing the existing facilities modernized for the Mediterranean Games. Abodi emphasized that the city must now focus on the long-term management of these assets to benefit future generations.
