Taranto establishes new 11-hectare historical-naturalistic park

A new 11-hectare historical-naturalistic park is being established in the Lama area of Taranto, specifically in Contrada Carelli. The project, initiated by the association ‘I Cavalieri de li Terre Tarentine’, aims to integrate nature, history, and experiential tourism through slow tourism, organic agriculture, and historical reconstruction.

The park will feature several thematic zones, including a wooded area, spaces for organic farming using ancient varieties, a historical reconstruction of a medieval ‘mansus’, and a dedicated performance area. Development plans include the creation of accessible paths for gentle mobility, the restoration of dry-stone walls, and the use of sustainable, eco-friendly materials for all new structures.

In September, the park will host the 15th edition of the ‘Battle of the 11th Century between Normans and Byzantines’ on September 26 and 27. This event is organized by the association with support from the Ministry of Culture.
