Historical-naturalistic park development in Taranto

Overview

The association ‘I Cavalieri de li Terre Tarentine’ has initiated the establishment of an 11-hectare historical-naturalistic park in the Lama area of Taranto, specifically in Contrada Carelli. The project focuses on integrating organic agriculture, historical reconstruction, and slow tourism through sustainable development and the restoration of local features like dry-stone walls.

As part of the park’s activities, the 15th edition of ‘The Battle of the 11th Century between Normans and Byzantines’ was held in late September. Supported by the Ministry of Culture, this living history event featured professional reenactors depicting the Byzantine imperial army’s victory over Norman forces. The event included historical workshops, archery, and falconry, aiming to promote local cultural heritage and educational immersion.
